Parents if your student is an incoming Kindergartner, 6th grader, or Senior this vaccination clinic is a great way to get your child their school-required vaccinations. 🦷 The dentist is coming to our school! 🦷 The School Smiles on-site dental program provides on-site dental care at our school for ALL students that signup to participate. The dental team will set up inside our school and they accept Medicaid, private insurance, offer self-pay rates and grants through their foundation. Due to projects at the Team Building, This weeks (July 15-19) High School PE classes will take place at Trine. Students need to meet in front of the High School before 7:30am. From there, a bus will take the class to Trine. The bus should arrive back at the High School at the normal end time 9:30am. If you would like to meet the class at Trine instead of taking the bus, that is fine - Please try and be there a few minutes before 8:00am, as the class will start as early as possible. American Legion Auxiliary, Hoosier Girls State Delegate Selected. Olivia Dirig, daughter of James and Joyce Dirig was chosen by the Fremont, Indiana American Legion Auxiliary Unit #257 to attend the 82nd annual session of the American Legion Auxiliary, Hoosier Girls State. ALA HGS was held June 23-29, 2024 on the campus of Trine University. Miss Dirig, a Junior at Fremont High School joined approximately 250 other young women from across the state of Indiana for this government program designed to educate our leaders of tomorrow in the duties, privileges, rights, and responsibilities of citizenship. "It was an honor to represent my hometown of Angola and Fremont High School," Dirig stated, "I enjoyed meeting other young women my age from across the state." Miss Dirig was also given the honor of playing Taps at three of the flag retiring ceremonies during the week. "I shared this honor with one other delegate," Dirig continued, "I had not planned to bring my trumpet with me; luckily ALA HGS was close to home." During the week at ALA HGS, Delegates are assigned to a mythical political party. Within the first three days, delegates established party beliefs/platforms and learned about different elected positions in government. Delegates also filed for an office at either the city, county, or state level. Participants then conducted a campaign complete with speeches, posters, and other campaign materials. "I ran for County Coroner," Dirig told us, "but I lost in the primary." Elected delegates spent the last day performing the duties as described for that position. Non-elected delegates were given appointments and encouraged to visit the offices of those elected to communicate their needs as citizens. "Since I did not get elected, I spent the last day as secret service for the State Treasurer." This year's delegates were honored to have news reporter (and former ALA HGS Governor), Ms. Jane Pauley, as a guest speaker. "Jane Pauley's visit was a surprise - not in the program," Dirig related, "It was exciting to hear about her life experiences and how ALA HGS helped her." This year's ALA HGS will also be a part of an upcoming news segment on CBS News Sunday Morning.

PRESS RELEASE: LOCAL STUDENT SELECTED FOR INTERNSHIP AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS TO ANALYZE NASA EARTH SCIENCE DATA Lilian (Lily) Coler, a student from Fremont High School in Fremont, Indiana, has been selected for the prestigious Student Enhancement in Earth and Space Science (SEES) summer internship to be held at The University of Texas at Austin’s Center for Space Research. Students will work with scientists and engineers to conduct authentic research and develop experiments for the ZQube, a small cubesat satellite. Students will have the opportunity to develop an experiment that will fly on the Zero G aircraft in microgravity. This nationally competitive program, funded by NASA, selects students who will increase their knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and math through earth and space education. SEES is a collaborative effort of The University of Texas at Austin’s Center for Space Research and NASA. Students apply for SEES and are selected competitively. The internships are organized around an aerospace or space science theme drawn from NASA’s diverse engineering and scientific research programs. The program combines the strengths of collaborators to enrich teaching and learning of STEM. Over 500 10th grade applications were received for the coveted 50 on-site internship positions. Students work remotely with their project scientist prior to the on-site internship, complete an Earth and Space Science course, have the opportunity to learn Python coding, and conduct microgravity research. During the nine days the students’ will work at UT/CSR, they will conduct hands-on activities, field investigations, collaborate with NASA-funded scientists and engineers, and work on various NASA missions. Earth is a complex, dynamic system we do not yet fully understand. The Earth system, like the human body, comprises diverse components that interact in complex ways. We strive to understand the Earth's atmosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, and biosphere as a single connected system. Our planet is changing on all spatial and temporal scales. The purpose of NASA's Earth science program is to develop a scientific understanding of Earth's system and how properties react in microgravity. Students selected will come together July 27 in Austin, Texas to conduct experiments, tour facilities, network with other students, and conduct research while being mentored by NASA subject matter experts at The University of Texas at Austin. The SEES internship proves that the excitement students feel about space science is a critical step in enriching science, math, engineering, and technology. The internship will provide students the rare – and for most, unique opportunity to spend two weeks working with professional scientists and engineers at the cutting edge of space exploration. This past year, The Joe Stempien Memorial Community Leadership Scholarship Fund was able to raise funds and hand out two scholarships to two Fremont High School students. They would like to increase both the quantity and the amount of the scholarships being handed out each year to our Fremont Students, and by doing so they need your help! Members of the FHS Key Club and Art Club spent their first week of summer painting the kindergarten hallway at FES. In-coming kindergarten students will now see the alphabet and the numbers 1-100 displayed on the hallway walls. It was a fun, collaborative project
