We have had big events for the last 4 weekends with 2 more to come just this semester.
Below you will find information about all of them. Pictures and videos can be found on Facebook.
Weekend #1 - Indiana All-State Honor Choir with Grant Carlson singing
Weekend #2 - Great Lakes Harmony Region 17 Mega Festival
Six high school choir members traveled to Cleveland to take part in a mega festival barbershop weekend. Fremont students along with 20 other girls from Indiana to Buffalo, NY formed the butterfly chorus. They were coached by the Note To self Quartet ( which I am a member of) and the Amazing Debbie Cleveland. Debbie is the current International Barbershop Quartet winner with her quartet Dynasty. Her daughter, also the current champion, joined us as well. This is Debbie Cleveland's' 3rd international quartet wins as well as a 36 year career in vocal music education. The students worked at high levels, learned barbershop tags, and performed on the Saturday night show. Our students bravely performed as a quartet in front of the entire region. At this event Betsy Fowler was also awarded her 30 year membership pin to the Sweet Adelines International organization.
Weekend #3 - ISSMA Solo and Ensemble Contest
Our 2nd year of hosting the ISSMA Solo & Ensemble Contest went off without a hitch. A very special thank you to all students, staff, and community members for their help with this event. We had 13 participating schools.
Fremont students performed extremely well receiving 20 gold Medals and 3 Silver medals with 38 students participating. Four of our students qualified to move on to the State Contest this Saturday in Indianapolis. Those students are Eva Kelley, Jasmine McGuirk, Arianna Baum & Gabrielle Baum.
Weekend #4 - Circle the State with Song
Saturday Feb. 14th, seventeen students (minus 2 that were ill) participated in the Circle the State with Song honor choir festival in Fort Wayne. We worked from 8:30am until we gave a concert at 3:30pm. At the festival there are 2 choirs, an elementary choir (4th-6thgraders) and a middle school choir (7th & 8th). The students worked and sang all day with a guest conductor. There were around 220 students in total. Four brave Fremont students auditioned with many others to receive the opportunity to sing in small groups or solo in the concert. Jozie McGuigan, Maddie Ridenour, & Kalvin Smith with small group singers with the MS group. Ruby Perry was a soloist to open the closing combined chorus song. She was amazing. I am so proud of all of them and their bravery. The audience for these events have been huge which makes it that much more frightening for a young singer. But they conquered their fear and sang beautifully.
This weekend we will travel to Indy for State Solo & Ensemble and March 14th the 6th grade choir and the 7th & 8th grade choir will travel to Garrett for the ISSMA Organizational Contest.
